FUEGO STORY

Throughout history, in all cultures, Rites of Passage ceremonies and tools represent the foundation for personal and communal health and sustainability. Perhaps the greatest challenge that we face in our times is that so many of us have lost a sense of what these ceremonies represent, and consequently the tools that we need for personal and communal evolution have been forgotten. The result is that we get stuck in places of immobility, and whether we are a youth, an adult, or a large organization, we become lost in a world that has become extremely violent and difficult.

At the center of our passage has always been the fire, or fuego. The fire brings us together in all of our differences as people, and it is in the fire that we find renewal. Fuego is a special organization because of our capacity to provide a unique and powerful form of leadership in these tumultuous times. We facilitate those essential processes and tools that are central to surviving change, conflict and uncertainty, processes that are both ancient and irreplaceable.

Fuego helps transform the lives of the highest risk young men and women in the social service and juvenile justice systems. For the last 15 years we have been successful with these young men and women because we understand what they need from the ancient perspective of the Rites of Passage. We have developed a high level of mastery helping these youth heal from the wounds of severe trauma, and we have developed an extremely successful curriculum series that provides them with the tools that they will need to master the conflict, uncertainty and violence in their own lives.

In a time of great uncertainty, Fuego provides vision and leadership for our young people and for our communities. We carry the irreplaceable wisdom of the fire. In the fire we are invincible and united in our responsibility to care for the young men and women that will follow in our footsteps.
